    Il libro ripercorre la vita di don Francesco Bonifacio (1912 - 1946), fino al suo martirio. Egli visse tutti i terribili drammi del secolo breve che sconvolsero l'Istria e la Venezia Giulia: la guerra, l'armistizio, l'annessione al Terzo Reich, la liberazione dal nazifascismo e la presa del comando in Istria da parte dei cosiddetti Poteri Popolari, cioè i comunisti della nuova Jugoslavia. Don Francesco Bonifacio rimase tra la sua gente sempre, testimoniando la sua fede limpida fino al suo crudele assassinio: l'11 settembre 1946 infatti , a soli 34 anni, don Bonifacio scomparve per sempre. Il 3 luglio 2008 papa Benedetto XVI lo proclama beato riconoscendo il suo un vero martirio in odium fidei.
