Before serious discussion on any topic can take place, it is usually necessary to
define one’s terms. In the present instance, we need to ask the following question:
“what, exactly, do we mean when we speak of a ‘model’?” A reasonable definition
of the term might be a simplified or idealized representation of reality. Although
this is a pretty broad definition, it is perhaps the only one that really embraces
everything we refer to as “a model.”
