    Thomas Mortensen er en venlig mand. Midaldrende, fraskilt og folkeskolelærer. Han er nogenlunde tilfreds med sit liv, selvom han har det svært med skoleverdenens omvæltninger og skiftende pædagogiske modeluner. Med lidt sund fornuft går det nok.

    Det gør det bare ikke, for pludselig er han blevet en hæmsko for den pædagogiske udvikling og hvirvles ind i behandlingssystemet med psyko-tests, skemaer, kurser og samtaler. I begyndelsen lader han sig villigt behandle, men det stadig mere groteske og farceagtige forløb tvinger ham til sidst til at handle drastisk for at redde stumperne af sin sjæl.
