Angels in the form of children are called putti (with Ital. putto - a little boy).
According to Catholic tradition, angels are spiritual creatures of God, incorporeal but with their own intelligence and will and, among the beings created by God, they are those with the highest degree of perfection.
The term Angel derives from the Greek "anghelos" or messenger of God.
In the Catholic Church, angels take on a strongly Christological dimension.
They proclaim Christ, serve him and are created from their origin for the purpose of his kingdom. They also have the function of assisting and protecting the Church and human life (for this reason they are invoked in the celebrations and prayers of believers), so much so that for Saint Augustine, the term angel does not define the being of the creature but rather the office or the task assigned to him by God.
Angels are considered as beings composed of pure light, as mysterious presences enveloped in fire, but more commonly and above all in the common imagination they have human appearance, in fact they are always depicted as a perfect cross between man and woman, devoid of sex and with two large white wings.
As regards traditional Christian categories, angels can be divided into three series of hosts each composed of three types of angels with precise functions, rules and tasks ranging from being messengers of God's judgment to responsibility for the order of the universe.
