The pursuit ended in a battle that plunged the Bismarck into waters nearly three miles deep, taking with it more that 2,000 lives. The vast stretch of water in the Atlantic Ocean was the final resting place for the mighty vessel, with most of its crew also plummeting to a watery grave.
