Set in the early fifties this film is centred on a young boy, working as an apprentice, who is hindered by political events from gaining a higher education. This film is apparently autobiographical and is in the spirit of a poem by Endre Ady ('the stone you throw returns to earth … always returns'). A divided country is depicted united only by a common hatred of foreigners. Sara seems to identify with the basic frankness of Greek immigrants and groups of gypsies.
