In Ronald Neame’s Tunes of Glory, the incomparable Alec Guinness plays Jock Sinclair – a whiskey-drinking, up-by-the-bootstraps commanding officer of a peacetime Scottish battalion. A lifetime military man, Sinclair expects respect and loyalty from his men.
