This is a true story. It began in 1922, when the Radium Dial Company came to Ottowa, Illinois, and opened a factory in the old high school. They taught the local schoolgirls to paint clock faces with radium, which made the numbers glow in the dark. Each girl dipped her brush into the radioactive paint, then rolled it on the tip of her tongue to make a fine point. Slowly, unknowingly, they were all poisoning themselves. When they began contracting deadly bone cancer the Chicago newspapers named them "The Legion of the Doomed". Most died in their youth. Others suffered for years…
