The film revolves around the ocean liner "SS Britannic," which is threatened by an unknown person calling himself "Juggernaut." This person claims to have placed high-explosive bombs on the ship and demands a ransom of £500,000 in exchange for instructions on how to disarm the bombs. A team of bomb disposal experts, led by Lieutenant Commander Anthony Fallon (Richard Harris), is sent to handle the situation and save the passengers. Meanwhile, Inspector John McLeod (Anthony Hopkins) leads the police investigation to catch the criminal.
