Fox star Buck Jones plays Bim, a happy-go-lucky layabout who becomes the town hero when he thwarts an attempt to fiddle the local school out of its memorial donations - and, in the process, wins the heart of the school mistress.

Four Sons opens with the depiction of an idyllic German town - "the old country." It is Frau Bernle's birthday, and she is celebrating the blessing of having four wonderful sons. Franz (Francis X. Bushman, Jr.) is in the German Army; Joseph (James Hall) is a Bavarian framer; Johann (Charles Morton) is a blacksmith; and Andreas (George Meeker) is a sheep herder. When Joseph receives a letter from his friend Fritz, urging him to move to America, Frau Bernle (Margaret Mann) gives him the money that he needs to go. War breaks out and soon once close brothers on opposite sides of the trenches.

After her father dies and a hunted rebel leader (Victor (McLeglen) returns to town, however, Connaught finds it renewed hope that the tides of oppression will shift and she might again find happiness.
This romantic silent drama, set in Ireland, is the first film in which a then-unknown John Wayne is clearly visible.

All 5 films have newly commissioned musical scores by five different composers (Christopher Caliendo, Tim Curran, Dana Kaproff, and John & Alexander Kaplan) which their respective films perfectly. 4 of the 5 films begin with a gentle warning about bringing the film to DVD using the best available source materials which is another way of saying that they haven't been fully restored. Despite some scratches early on these movies look great considering their age and the fact that no original Fox silent negatives exist anymore. While the technology does exist to completely restore these films one can't expect Fox to spend a fortune on what is clearly a niche market and we are lucky to still have these titles at all.
