This story of youthful rebellion is taken from the ancient Greek classic "+Antigone." The setting is modern times and Britt Eklund plays Antigone in a fictitious land where reality is suspended. Haimon (Tomas Milian) goes against the wishes of his father and the prime minister by wanting to become an animal. Tiresias (Pierre Clementi) plays a Christ-like figure. The only resemblance between this version and the ancient tragedy is that the three principle characters are slated for an uncertain future among the living. The film was shown at the 1970 New York Film Festival.

The story of Antigone in the world that has gone urban and mass murder. One woman only sees the dead people as her brothers, hundreds of them, no being buried since the bodies indicate a message of subversion: you are going to be dead yourself if you're not as imposed. A woman and her male friend however take the risk and collect the bodies in order to give them a proper burial.

Cavani's most openly political film. The storyline is great. What seemed well casted in 70s strikes recently artificial: Pierre Clementi seems to be too strange to act as hand for Antigone, and Britt Ekland is only a face.
