LEGION ModelBuilder / Simulator CONNECT Edition Update 4 | 1.1 Gb
The OpenBuildings development team is pleased to announce the availability of LEGION ModelBuilder / Simulator CONNECT Edition Update 4 (10.04.01.03). This software helps enhance pedestrian flow and improve safety by allowing the users to test evacuation strategies at any point of the simulations.
What's New
This a list of new features included in the latest release of LEGION Model Builder and LEGION Simulator.
- LEGION 3D re-released with CONNECT licensing and modernised SketchUp file support.
- New Entity Speed Profiles for Central London, featuring gender-specific data for:
. Weekday peak.
. Weekday off-peak.
. Weekday combined peak & off-peak.
. Weekend morning.
. Weekend evening.
. Weekend combined morning & evening.
- PTI Platforms have reduced minimum width limit, to help model narrower platforms that may be found in older stations.
- Passenger Distributions gives PTI the ability to control passenger distribution patterns on Platforms:
. Optionally add Platform Entry Zones to Platforms.
. Different Passenger Distributions can be Associated with Platform Entry Zones on a per-Service basis.
- Ability to switch between Target and Filtering states for Stairs, Escalators, Waiting Zones and Level Exits, without needing to redraw them.
- Direction Modifiers can ignore entities already affected by other Direction Modifiers.
- LEGION Simulator supports relative paths for input and output files. This helps collaboration and makes it easier to move projects to a different folder, a different drive or even a different PC.
- Visual Configs allow different Simulator visual configurations to be created, saved and assigned to Timeline tracks, making it easier to record all your analysis output in a single session.
- Video, Map and Screen Camera Layouts can be reused across Timeline tracks and events, making it even easier to configure rich, compelling LEGION analysis output.
- Default Ranges in LEGION Simulator are now available in LEGION Model Builder.
- Readability of default Range names has been improved. Names are now shorter and similar categories are now alphabetically grouped to be easier to find.
- New default Weighted Value Ranges: Fruin Service Factor and USHCM Service Factor.
- New Service Factor Maps added to examine effects of congestion duration at Fruin and USHCM Levels of Service.
- Default Maps are automatically disabled in new Analysis Projects, where the Data Source is a LEGION Simulation (*.ora) file. This is to improve simulation usability and performance.
- Batch Runs are easier to configure and can now optionally save the Simulation OD Matrix at the end of each run.
- Resizable edit dialog for Data Objects, simplifying working with objects with long names.
- LEGION CAD Prep now provides control over curve segmentation generated by the Simulation Area Flood tool.
- Numerous minor improvements and bug fixes.

LEGION’s pedestrian simulation application offers modeling capabilities of people’s interactions with each other and physical obstacles, and activities, including circulation and evacuations, within public spaces like railway stations, airports, sports arenas, tall buildings, and street level with vehicle interactions. Using LEGION simulation tools in collaborative digital workflows with Bentley’s OpenBuildings Designer (formerly AECOsim Building Designer), architects, engineers and owners can consider pedestrian traffic in their conceptioneering of design alternatives. The newly announced OpenBuildings Station Designer will enable collaborative digital workflows to fully model pedestrian activities and journeys to and from trains, platforms, and through stations.
LEGION Simulator is an analytical application that reads the pedestrian scenario plan of rail and metro stations, stadiums, and other large-gathering venues. The applications help engineers and designers to easily calculate the movement of people within a space. LEGION Simulator includes the data analysis capabilities to review the result with reports, video, and heat maps
LEGION Model Builder is an application used by building designers to import CAD floor plans. The software places pedestrian control and simulation objects within the floor plan to define a scenario of how people would interact within space. The models are the input to LEGION Simulator that performs the analysis resulting in a simulation.
Bentley intends to include the capabilities of LEGION Model Builder in OpenBuildings Station Designer so that pedestrian scenario planning and simulation become an integral part of the BIM design process and facility operations. These capabilities will be added incrementally, over a series of product releases, until all capabilities have been integrated. After successful development of pedestrian scenario planning in OpenBuildings Station Designer, support of LEGION Model Builder will be discontinued.
Bentley has acquired LEGION, the leading developer of a pedestrian simulation software and an essential tool for designing public spaces
Bentley Systems, Incorporated. is the global leader dedicated to providing architects, engineers, constructors, and owner-operators with comprehensive architecture and engineering software solutions for sustaining infrastructure. Founded in 1984, Bentley has nearly 3,000 colleagues in more than 45 countries, $500 million in annual revenues, and, since 2001, has invested more than $1 billion in research, development, and acquisitions.
