AFT Arrow 9.0.1109 build 2022.05.11 | 200.4 mb
Applied Flow Technology has released AFT Arrow 9.0.1109 build 2022.05.11 is practical fluid dynamic simulation software used to calculate pressure drop and flow distribution in gas piping and ducting systems.
What's new in AFT Arrow Version 9
Analysis Setup
The Analysis Setup window consolidates windows for System Properties, Solution Control, Activate Modules, Extended Options, Goal Seek & Control Manager, and Transient Control all into one location. This allows users to activate and enable modules, specify fluids, change solution tolerances or iterations, and so on, all from a single window. For a list of windows that have merged into the Analysis Setup
Libraries
The database feature interface was completely overhauled to improve workability. The new system is called the Library Manager and significantly improves the ease and workability for users to browse and connect input information, now called libraries, into their model.
Multi-Scenario Graphing
Profile graphs (and Transient Graphs in the XTS module) can now include output from multiple scenarios, making it easy to compare the results along a flow path for different scenarios.
Improved Organization of the Warnings in the Output
An improved display of the warnings and design alerts makes it easier to review and understand information in the following ways:
- Critical Warnings, Warnings, and Cautions are color-coded and grouped by type in collapsible sections
- Design Alerts are now shown on a separate tab in the General Section
- Double-clicking messages will take user to the related pipe/junction in the Workspace
- Warnings, Cautions, and Design Alerts are now displayed for all scenarios when using the Multi-scenario Output feature
Extended Time Simulation (XTS) Add-on Module
The XTS Module is now available as an add-on module for AFT Arrow. The XTS module allows slow transients to be modeled such as pressurizing a tank, controlled valve opening/closing, and slow compressor/fan transients. Users can view transient output in the Output window, create transient graphs, or create transient Visual Reports.
More Improvements
Pipes/Junctions
- Pipes can be defined as zero-length connectors to connect two junctions which are directly flanged together
Workspace and Interface
- Pipes and Junctions can be set the Same as Parent directly from the Workspace
- Custom Unit names can be defined in the Unit System section of the User Options window
- Pipe/Junction notes can be searched in Select Special
- Special Conditions can be directly changed from the toolbar for junctions that have multiple special condition options
Output and Reporting
- Show the number of warnings and design alerts in the batch run window
- Heat Transfer output parameters added to Visual Report
- Design alerts are grouped together in the General Output section
Miscellaneous
- SRK and Peng-Robinson equations of state are now available for AFT Standard fluids
- List Junctions that have Special Conditions change in Solution Progress Window
- Silent Batch runs can be enabled to prevent notifications from appearing over other active windows

–- Changes that affect results –-
1. Fixed a problem when inserting a scenario above another one and then making changes to the original scenario. This would not delete the output of lower scenarios.
2. Fixed a problem using Global Edit on non-cylindrical pipe where the changes were not being made.
3. The parameter "Fluid Mass" was not being reported correctly for entire pipes, which has been fixed. The Axial Points value is correct.
4. Fixed an issue that could cause output to not be cleared upon closing the model after choosing No when prompted to save.
5. "Transfer Results to Initial When Done" option in Output Control was not transferring initial guesses after a run.
6. Updated Excel Export Manager to report the results for values like specific volume that used to report as N/A.
7. Fixed issue where "dT Stag." output parameter was reported with the incorrect sign.
8. Fixed an issue that caused Relief Valves to be defined when Exit Temperature was not entered and should have been required.
9. Fixed various reporting and Global Edit issues with Tank Transients in Arrow XTS Module.
10. Corrected a program behavior that allowed users to check out both ANS Module and GSC Module at the same time, which should not be allowed.
11. Fixed an issue that caused Pipe Material Recurring Costs to be imported from excel incorrectly.
12. The calculation of convective heat transfer was based on a bulk flow stagnation temperature. This has been changed to static temperature.
13. Fixed a problem with graphing the Outer Surface Temperature where the data was actually the External Convection Coefficient.
14. Fixed issue where XTS overwrites Design Alert entry when graphing with multiple Y Axis.
–- Changes that affect interface –-
1. Fixed an issue that prevented annotations from translating on the workspace when Arrange->Scale/Flip Workspace was used.
2. Fixed several language phrases that were not translating properly.
3. Changed Output Grid right-click logic to allow quick graph plots in more cases, such as columns with some numeric and some N/A data.
4. Updated the Startup window's Model Preference's pane to require the user to click "Remember My Preferences and Hide" in order to apply the selection in the Units section.
5. Changed the behavior of the Scenario Tree in the Quick Access Panel. The tree will now keep its collapse/expand state for all nodes after a 'clone', 'create child', or 'delete' operations.
6. Fixed an issue that allowed users to open Properties Windows while a model is running causing errors.
7. Fixed an issue where the "Batch Run Status" form ends up behind the main application form.
8. Fixed issues scaling XTS Profile Animation graphs - requires maximum and odd per-time step scaling
9. Made the fluid dropdown disabled when the Assigned Flow junction is set to Outflow.
10. Fixed a problem displaying the Design Alert for Transient graphs.
11. Fixed a problem with some Output Messages where they would be doubled when going to Output Control and clicking OK.
–- Other changes –-
1. Fixed an issue where "Save All Results to PDF" from Batch Run only printing junction summaries to PDF.
2. Exchanged printing tools being used to the same as those being used in other AFT applications like AFT Fathom 12.
3. Fixed the CII import to allow for file version changes

Applied Flow Technology (AFT) Arrow is a software tool used to model, simulate, and analyze any kind of super-heated gas pumped through piping or ducting systems. Among its vast compressible flow repertoire includes pipe and duct sizing, valve sizing, system optimization, and other important calculations necessary to design or analyze compressible flow systems. In addition, AFT Arrow can help engineers identify operational problems that, once corrected, enhance system reliability.
The fundamental, non-simplified equations of compressible flow from the heart of AFT Arrow, ensure its ability to accurately model a wide variety of gases from steam to compressed air to natural gas. Engineers make liberal use of Arrow’s ability to model the complex physical phenomena inherent to systems containing real gases, sonic choking, and heat transfer. Perhaps most impressive is Arrow’s ability to model highly intricate systems that can consist of complicated webs of pipe branching, all without imposing a limit on the number of pipes or system components.
It doesn’t matter if you work in a wastewater treatment plant or are working to expand a pipeline – you can use AFT Arrow to avoid catastrophes, solve sluggish flows, and protect our sensitive environment. Arrow allows engineers to design gas systems that lessen their carbon footprint and can help to ensure that pipelines are able to adequately contain destructive gases they may emit. AFT Arrow also safely prevents against dust collection explosions.
