Boris Vallejo is a cartoonist born in Peru, who emigrated to the United States in 1964, where he currently resides in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He frequently works with Julie Bell, his wife, a painter and his model. The two have worked collaboratively on several works, signing them with both names.
Vallejo draws almost exclusively for fantasy and erotic genres. His drawings have illustrated the covers of dozens of science fiction works and have been featured in a series of calendars that have become best-sellers. He has also created posters for films, such as “Barbarian Queen and National Lampoon's Vacation.” The cartoonist has two children from a previous marriage, one of whom, Dorian Vallejo, has also worked in the fantasy genre.
Boris Vallejo's drawings typically show gods, monsters and/or muscular barbarians (men or women) in battle. Many of the male figures are based on the author himself, while many of the female figures are based on his wife. His latest stories lean more towards the erotic side, although they still retain fantasy themes.
