Automation of production processes is the main and most progressive direction of modern technical development. With automation, the maximum increase in productivity is achieved, the working conditions of workers are significantly improved, and the quality of products is increased first of all, automation extends to production mass production and relatively labor-intensive technological processes, where it gives the greatest economic effect. An important condition for automation is the introduction of a new progressive technology that provides high productivity in production with good product quality.

The introduction of automated process control systems (APCS), flexible automated production of various types of forest products makes it possible to significantly increase the efficiency, depth of optimization of wood processing and increase the yield of products.
To control technological processes, starting from the time of the origin of this field of technology in antiquity and until the early 60s of the XX century, mainly the simplest mechanical, pneumatic or electrical controllers were used, the calculation of which was based on linear one-dimensional models.
