    Es lebte einmal ein altes Ehepaar. Der Mann war stets mitleidsvoll und erbarmte sich der Tiere. Er war ruhig und nie unzufrieden. Seine Frau war gerade das Gegenteil von ihm, habgierig, unzufrieden und rachsüchtig.

    Eines Tages fand der Mann im Garten einen jungen Sperling, der sich einen Flügel gebrochen hatte und deshalb nicht weiterfliegen konnte. Den Mann dauerte das arme Tierchen, er nahm es daher vom Boden auf und trug es behutsam in sein Haus. Dort verband er den verletzten Flügel und bettete den Sperling in einen Vogelkorb, den er mit Watte ausgepolstert hatte.
