JB Dunckel is best known for his work with Nicolas Godin as Air, they of the landmark 1998 double platinum debut album Moon Safari. The gentle downtempo synthpop album referencing the stars and naive heroines was a clear change of course from the crunchy electro of fellow French band Daft Punk, and the album was a success. Dedicated fans of Air may be satisfied with J B Dunckel’s new album H+ with its low tempo pop music and songs with titles like ‘Space Age’ and ‘In Between the Two Moons’ and the heavily accented whispery vocals. It’s a well-crafted pop album, but with some clear shortcomings.

Though the subgenre isn’t the most popular or trendy in the world, “electro swing” has had its fair share of standout characters, and Austria’s own Parov Stelar easily sits atop the throne. Since his start almost 20 years ago, he’s been an incredibly prolific figure, putting out an extensive series of studio albums, live albums, EPs, and reputable remixes. After the success of the first fourteen reissues, which restored to the limelight some of the gems of the early music repertory in the catalogues of our labels, here are fourteen new titles to allow listeners to renew acquaintance with further treasures of the Renaissance and Baroque (and even a journey through time thanks to Raphaël Imbert’s album Bach Coltrane), performed by some of the leading interpreters of the genre; most of these discs won one or more awards on their first release.

Thomas Tomkins may be the least known of the composers recorded here, but we unique insights to the Worcester composer, as his autograph manuscripts have been preserved in his own hand, in particular Re.1122 in the Bibiothèque National in Paris. This recording takes Tomkins advice to a copyist, or ‘lessons of worthe’, and applies it to a recital programme: “placed in their owne native keyes: not mingling or mangling them together wth others of contrary keys: But put in theyr Right places.”

Phil Woods, the searing Alto saxophonist and clarinetist, calls his occasional expanded combo "the Little Big Band". Here's To My Lady, the octet's first recording, offers up a hot band with inventive solos and big-sounding, imaginative ensembles. This is an album with no let downs.
